The much favored company of the 80s, Vespa, is all set to re enter the Indian markets with the help of World Bank arm IFC that will fund the Italian 2 wheeler company with Euro 45 mn. Vespa plans to utilize these funds to make the eco friendly scooters, motorcycles, and LCVs in Vietnam and India.
Chairman and managing director Piaggio India Ravi Chopra -
A Vespa is a Vespa, it’s not a scooter. The Vespa will be designed for the Indian consumers’ tastes, something that offers them iconic value. It is a lifestyle product meant for the elite, for people who like to be distinctly known to possess something unique in nature.
After a major leave from the Indian markets for 15 years, it is all set to make a third attempt at selling two and three wheelers.
The first product that it will bring to the Indian markets is the 125cc Vespa LX scooter in 2012 that will come out of the company’s new Baramati plant.
Vespa is also planning to bring out a gearless scooter for short people, and women wearing sarees.
